by thorin, mataharpi & twirlwithanya (guest writers) :: August 18, 2003
We here at CSP get our share of of email from readers. We try to open and read every email and letter, and respond to as many as we can. What follows are two emails in response to thorin's anti-Renfest rhetoric on this site, and his response.
(note: CSP does not edit its letters-to-the-editor in any way, not even to conceal our shortcomings.)

The "RenFest" article by "Thorin" will probably generate sufficient hate mail from die-hard "Rennies", so I will not contribute an opinion of that genre, but will instead offer the suggestion that the author of the article go back to school to learn how to write proper English and that the promulgators of his drivel attend the same school to learn how to edit, correctly, aforesaid drivel.

Subject: Clark Schpiell Productions--Fear the Ren Faire article
Hello there:
Please pass a message to "thorin", originator of "Fear the Ren Faire".
First of all, I don't know what Ren Faire "thorin" went to, but I have been to two Ren Faires--one in Cornwall, PA and the other in Maryland. Neither of those Ren Faires have you sitting on "hay", as thorin implies. Maybe there are some out there which do, but I have never been to one.
Secondly, Ren Faires teach children, as well as uneducated adults about the world in older times. It is ones OPTION to say NO to participating in a stage show, like thorin did in the dragon scene. I have seen many people say NO and not be made to feel badly about it. It is also an OPTION to NOT go to these faires if that is what you choose, but to bash them when you obviously don't know your a$* from a hole in the ground, is just ridiculous. Does thorin have nothing better to do with his life.
Also, was it NECESSARY for him to use the "F" word TWICE in one short article? Could he not pick a more appropriate word, or is his education not past the 8th grade?
Speaking of other English errors.......I question the word "petuli" he used in his article. Does he mean PATCHOULI--it is a fragrance that some people wear. If that is what he meant to say, he obviously cannot spell and the editor of this article does not know correct English either! I do have to agree with thorin on the point of the Patchouli (if that indeed is what he was referring to). I do not like the smell of it myself. But people do wear it and that is their choice.
The last point I would like to address is the "gas station attendants and accountants" that thorin BELIEVES are the only people who dress up and play ren faire characters. I can assure you that one of the HEAD ARTISTIC DIRECTORS, whom I know PERSONALLY, is a graduate of Yale University--AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL!!! She also acts in the faire and now plays a gypsy. She used to play the Queen. I also know of another gentleman who graduated from Cornell--another IVY LEAGUE school. Granted, not ALL of the actors/actresses have graduated from such schools, but I am quite sure those who did would not appreciate being called "gas station attendants".
Maybe thorin should go back to school to learn proper English and maybe get a life of his own. By the way, what do you do Thorin???????? It must be too important or too time-consuming, if you have time to bash people you do not even know and probably those who would not give you the time of day if you asked!
Learn English, learn history, grow up and get over your "bad experience". Maybe that ren faire was a particularly bad one..........my advice........try another one.
Love the Ren Faire!!!
